Our Girls' Football team last year narrowly missed out on significant success at the county finals. Given the space of a year - and now that they're wiser, stronger and better - they kicked off the Blue Coat sporting calendar with a brilliant performance. Mr Brooks watched from the sidelines and reports the following...
"Blue Coat sent 2 teams to the District Girls' Football Tournament at KLB on Thursday 15th October. Each team played 5 matches against local opposition (including the other Blue Coat team) in a friendly but highly competitive tournament. Both teams were a great credit to the school showing outstanding sportsmanship, playing as teams and supporting and rallying behind each other when things didn't go as planned.
Team 2 won their first match convincingly with a 6-0 scoresheet, but this was to be their only victory. They did themselves proud and held their heads high and battled to the end of every match - it's much harder to show that level of effort and commitment when you are losing. You made me proud to be a Blue Coat teacher.
Team 1 won all of their matches, only conceding one goal in the whole afternoon. The final match of the afternoon was the nail-biter, with the two highest placed teams facing each other in the last match: Blue Coat and Alexandra Hosea. A win was needed to ensure our progression to the next round and the girls didn't disappoint with a 4 -1 victory.
Well done to all the girls who took part and we now look forward to the next round in Gloucester later in the year.
~Mr Brooks"
Well done to all girls for representing our school so well. Thank you to Mr Brooks and parents for supporting the girls throughout the afternoon.
