Our Girls Score a Place in the Football County Final

girls footballLast year, our attention was drawn to a Year 5 girls' football team who performed brilliantly in local competitions aimed at Year 6 teams. We knew they held promise and they've been carrying out some light training work thanks to Mrs Needham's son, a trained coach, Tom Needham, over the last couple of weeks.

Once again, the girls performance proved to be oustanding. Here's a brief match report from Rowen (Team 1) on the experience:

"Last Thursday, Milepost 3 girls (and 1 year 4) went to KLB for a 7-a-side football tournament. We entered 2 differnt teams with a sub. There were 9 teams that entered but only one could go through to the county finals. Each team had to play every other team.

  • Team 1 was made up of: Zoe, Lena, Daisy, Connie, Jo, Rowen and Niamh.
  • Team 2 was made up of: Esme, Hattie, Evie, Rosie, Lizzie, Orlagh, Amelia and Rachel.

Team 1 played in pink whereas Team 2 played in blue and white.

At the end of the afternoon, Team 1 had won all of their games and had 24 points to secure their place in the final. Team 2 had 16 points and came 4th, losing only twice (once to British School and once to Team 1!) Everyone that went had fun and enjoyed the tournament."

In fact, the girls also managed a blank sheet for goals against, but netted 34 goals for in their path to victory!

On behalf of the teams and the wider school, we thank Mrs Needham, Tom Needham and Mrs Galvin for their commitment shown to our girls' football. Thanks also to willing parents for transporting the girls to and from the competition.

We can't wait to see how the girls progress in the county finals held on 11th December at Oxstalls.
