Reception Welcome Service 2013

photo-88We held our third consecutive Reception Welcome Service on Friday 18th October. This important ceremony is an opportunity to formally welcome our youngest learners and their parents to the Blue Coat family.

Taking place at our home-from-home, St Mary's Church, the service was kindly led by our very own Mrs Morag Langley (Foundation Governor) who was delighted to step in in Reverend Axford's unfortunate absence. During the service, Year 6's explained what it meant to them to become the school's privileged 'buddies': mentors for the Reception children during their first year at Blue Coat. Year 1's also reflected on the benefits of the buddy system to them last year being our youngest learners in the school.

Hymns, prayers, blessings and the presentation of the pebbles hand-painted by our Year 6's filled the rest of the service. The pebbles, once presented, remain displayed in school around our school's holy candle in the hall, or in our school welcome reception for later years, and will then leave with the children in Year 6 once they have completed the Blue Coat circle. This provides a touching memento for the children and serves to remind them of how important our core Christian values are in looking after ourselves and others.

Mr Jones was tasked with the extremely tricky duty of capturing the pebble presentation part of the service and tried his best to capture everyone in the photographs below.

A huge thank you to all families in attendance and, of course, Mrs Langley and St Mary's Church for your welcome and hospitality.
