The human brain is like a powerful computer that stores our memory and controls how we think and act. The brain contains billions of nerve cells that send and receive information around the body, it is over three times the size of other animals that are a similar size to us.  The right hand side of the brain controls the left hand side of the body and the left hand side of the brain controls the right hand side of the body.

When you see a picture of the brain it looks a bit like a wrinkled blob. The wrinkles are the cortex and this is where most of the brain cells live.  The cortex can be separated into 4 main lobes; the frontal lobe is where you do you thinking; the temporal cortex where you process sounds and make memories; the occipital cortex where you process all the things that you can see; and the parietal cortex, where you make sense of all the different bits of information that are bombarding your brain.
