From power station to home.

This afternoon we recreated the national grid! We started with a fuel tablet to symbolise the raw material of coal and burnt it to power a small stationary steam engine which turned a small generator.  The electricity went through cables carried by plyons made by the children out of K'nex and lit a tiny light bulb at the other end of the hall. Tomorrow we will research how a modern power station works and the electric power is delivered to our homes.  We had some interesting designs of pylons, but they all fullfilled the brief of carrying two wires at least 30cm off the ground and not falling over.
