Bags or Chains

DSCN2532This morning we launched our IPC topic, Champions for Change, with a trading game.  The children were divided into groups and had to buy raw materials of sheets of newspaper and boxes of paperclips, and then manufacture paper bags and chains.  They then sold them to the buyers for a small profit.  All the groups made profit with the best group multiplying their initial capital over 5 times.

The purpose was to think about how groups work together and how decisions are made.

Some of the things we will be finding out in this this topic are:

  • About the system of government in our country and in China.
  • About different types of government around the world
  • What makes a good leader.
  • How to write a successful speech.
  • The origins of democracy
  • About the Chinese Revolution.

The children all did brilliantly in the game, working well as teams and we had no revolutions or dictators, they were all very democratic!

That was a really fun day but our team just couldn't get the paper bags right but we were quite good on the paper-chains so it was good fun!
