Our First Week Back!

Hello everyone!

It was so lovely to see you all again on Tuesday. I really enjoyed hearing all about your busy, exciting Christmas holidays!

This week we began our new English genre, which is stories with predictable patterned language. We have been looking at Handa's Hen, We're Going on a Bear Hunt and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. We have been making music to accompany our storytelling, writing our own counting stories and writing extra parts for our bear hunts! This week we will begin to write complete versions of a patterned story, thinking about extra description for the reader and including alliteration and some rhyme.

In maths we have been looking at patterns (colour and number), symmetry in shapes, money mental maths, and writing number sentences using inverse operations. This week we will continue these themes as well as beginning to look more closely at properties of shapes.

In IPC, we began to think about what we already know about electricty. We generated lots of interesting questions  and began to find out about where electricity comes from before it enters our home and school.

Finally, a big THANK YOU for your support with Friday's topic launch. The children looked fantastic. We had a great day, including making various science projects (paperclip helicopters, dangling monkeys and floating flowers) and watching a bubbling chemical reaction!
