Happy New Year!

Hello and happy new year!

Thank you very much for the lovely Christmas cards and gifts. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and are well-rested and ready for the new term.

We start our new topic 'Toys' this week. Don't forget - you have the opportunity to bring in a toy on Wednesday. We will be  looking at the similarities and differences between the toys we've brought in, with a view to sorting them by how they work, materials used to make them, purpose etc.

In literacy we're focussing on narrative writing by looking at the work of Jane Hissey (Old Bear stories etc.) We will be looking at the characters, themes and familiar storylines she uses in her books. Our aim is to write our own stories using similar characters and themes, but with our own twist.

In maths we will be linking lots of areas together: calculating, measuring and understanding shape. The aim of this is to ensure that the children are able to see links within their learning and apply their knowledge to different contexts.

Year 1 parents, this week you will receive their child's targets for the end of this academic year. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Don't forget, we have our first forest school session of 2013 on Wednesday. Please make sure you wrap up in your warm clothes, including hats and gloves!
