Update for this week...

This week we made some great progress in maths. By the end of the week all of the children managed to work out missing values in subtraction number sentences. Some children were then challenged by the introduction of one-step and two-step number problems, but managed to get the hang of it by the end of the week. Next week we will be moving onto multiplication. The language that we will be using will include: 'lots of', 'groups of', 'times', 'multiply', 'multiplied by' and 'multiple(s) of'.

In literacy we have been identifying features of traditional tales. We have also begun to look carefully at the characters found in traditional tales and on Friday all the children managed to write a brilliant character description of 'The Big, Bad Wolf' in the form of a 'wanted' poster. Next week we will continue this theme, so please keep sharing traditional tales with your child at home.

In P.E the children have been practising two more shapes; a straddle and a tuck. The children worked in pairs to create short sequences consisting of at least 3 balances using some of the shapes we have learnt. Perhaps you might be lucky enough to be given a demonstration from your child of all 5 shapes!

In our IPC topic, day and night, Mrs Hunt enjoyed reinforcing learning through an educational game of 'photosynthesis tag'. The children really enjoyed the game and have a clear understanding of why light is so important for plants. Photos to follow shortly!

Next week I will be checking the children's progress in learning their high frequency word spellings, to see if they are ready to move onto the next set of words. On Monday I will be seeing how the year 2s have been getting on. For the year 1s this will happen on Friday. If possible, I would appreciate if the children could bring their sheet in with them this week.

I look forward to seeing you next week for your parents meetings.
