Learning in Livingstone!

Hi there everyone!

I do hope you enjoyed the disco...I just wish I could have been there with you. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it tomorrow!

Right, let's see where we've got to. Last week was our final week learning how to write stories. We listened to the story of The Emperor's New Clothes on Monday, then planned our own retelling of the story ready for Friday. The children have been so enthusiastic about this genre and their final piece showed what great progress they had made. Well done!

This week, we begin a non-fiction area, instruction writing. The children will learn how to give instructions verbally before having a go at writing a 2 part instruction at the end of the week. If you have any kits at home that need instructions, it would be great to share these with your child, looking at how they are often numbered, sentences are short and direct and follow a sequence.

In maths we will be learning how to estimate a group of up to 20 objects, using money in the Fancy Dress shop to add prices, select exact coins and work out how much change they need to give. We will also focus on writing numbers to 10/20/50/100 accurately, trying to form numbers correctly. This is something that most children find difficult. For some extra practice I will suggest that some children continue learning them at home...I hope that is ok!

Our Christmas play is well under way now, and many thanks for providing your child with a costume and helping them learn their lines. We hope you enjoy it as much as the children!
