Let's Celebrate!

I hope you're enjoying your holiday and feel refreshed, ready to start the next exciting term. I must admit that, although this term is really hectic, it is my favourite particularly as we are focusing on all the different celebrations in late autumn and winter.

Before thinking about the new term, a big thank you for all your donations for our harvest celebration at the church on Friday 19th October. The children enjoyed the service, singing some of their favourite harvest songs and were reminded of the importance of saying thank you for the food we are lucky enough to receive.

We return to the church very quickly! On Wednesday we welcome the new Foundation Stage children  into the Bluecoat community. You may remember this from last year...a very wet afternoon I think, but a joyful occasion as we welcomed your child into school and the church. It was also an opportunity to reinforce the important bond between your child and their Year 6 buddy. The parents of the new Foundation Stage children are invited to the church. However, we need parents to walk with us to the church (and of course stay for the service). If you are available from 1.15 on Wednesday we would be grateful for your support. We need a total of 3 (possibly 4) parents.

This term begins with a focus on writing recounts in literacy. We will begin with a recount of an experience in their half term holiday. From this we will assess their next steps for learning. We plan, on our Celebrations launch day on Tuesday to take part in a range of activities that will form the focus of a subsequent recount.

In maths our focus is division - for Year 1 children we  think of this as sharing equally into groups. Using the story The Tiger Who came to Tea, the children will be exploring ways of sharing cakes and biscuits equally between a number of people. It wuld be great if you could support this at home. Can your child share a number of pennies/cakes/biscuits between 2,3,4 people? Which numbers can't be shared equally?

Remember on Tuesday to wear clothes that might be worn on Bonfire night ready for our launch day. Also Wednesday is Forest School session 3, so wrap up warm!!!
