Amazing Addition!

We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of the fabulous picture from The Gingerbread Man story and the Gingerbread Men made from recycled materials. We have had a very creative week and all of us contributed to the big picture and had an interesting time making the model of the Gingerbread Man. It isn't always easy working with another person on a project, and although some of us happily shared ideas, some of us found this difficult and would much rather have made one by ourselves! However, listening to the discussions between the pairs was really interesting and by the end there was some great collaboration going on.These are all skills we need to learn for the future, and I'm very proud of all of you for your team work.

Our maths focus this week has been addition. You have amazed me with your addition skills, and lots of you can now count on from a group of objects to find the total rather than counting from 1 each time...excellent!

We have now finished Phase 2 of Letters and Sounds and Phase 3 begins in January. There will be more sounds and tricky words sent home then. We are spending the next 3 weeks assessing what we have learnt, so keep practising those sounds and tricky words. See if you can make some words using the letters you've learnt, such as cat, of, and, but etc.

Next week we will be using our writing skills to label features on a picture. We're going on a Gingerbread Man walk around the school grounds, using our senses to explore the things the Gingerbread Man might have experienced on his run. When we return, one of our jobs will be to label a picture from the story. I can't wait to see you all using the sounds you've learnt to write words from the story.

Finally, next Friday afternoons performance of The Whoops-a-Daisy Angel promises to be a hit. We have been busy practising and we can't wait to share it with our families. There are 3 tickets in the book bags...we look forward to seeing you there. Don't forget...costumes in on Monday please, any problems let us know.
