Blue Coat Pre-School Newsletter January 2012

Happy New Year.

We hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year and are enjoying being back at Pre-School.  A big welcome to those children and their families who are just starting in Poppers and Buttons we look forward to getting to know you.

Christmas Activities

We had a busy December with lots of lovely craft activities and also practising for our Nativity. During the last week of term the “Wednesday” children went to Dryleaze sheltered accommodation to perform “Is there a baby in there?” which went very well. Thank you to the parents who helped to walk the children there and back.

Christmas Pre-School Performance at DryLeaze on PhotoPeach

On the Thursday we performed to a packed school hall and the children managed what can be quite a scary experience for them admirably.  We hope you enjoyed it and the party snacks afterwards.  Many thanks to the parent fundraisers for their help on the day, to Father Christmas for finding time to visit us and of course to Liz Martin for being the narrator/musician.

Annual Review

Also in December we had an annual review from Gloucestershire County Council Early Years Department.  This went really well and if anyone would like to see a copy of the report please ask a member of staff.

Borrowed Clothing

If your child has borrowed clothes from Pre-School please can you return to us. Thanks.

Registration details

If you have moved, changed your phone number, would like to add or take people away from emergency contacts, or to alter medical information etc then please ask to see your child’s registration form. If these are filled in prior to starting Poppers they can easily be out of date by the time you get to Toggles.  Staff will be happy to help you with this, though at the end of the session rather than the start if possible.

Surprise Storytellers

We encourage a range of people to come and read a story to the children. During the year this could be teachers from the school, parents and grandparents, visitors such as the police.  If you would like to be part of this then please chat to the staff.  Story time is usually about 20 minutes before the end of a session (11.10 ish).

Early Years Self Evaluation Form (SEF)

We will shortly be compiling information to submit this years’ SEF to Ofsted. We have to represent the views of children, parents and staff in the evaluation and refer to responses made in the annual parental questionnaire, thank you notes or complaints received etc.  If you would like to add to this process then please talk to Caroline or Mandy or if you prefer, put your comments in writing.  The views of the children can be harder to record so if your child has said anything to you about Poppers, Buttons or Toggles that you think would be a useful reflection of their time at Pre-School we would be glad to receive them.

Thank you

The staff would like to say a big thank you for all the generous gifts you gave us for Christmas.

Term Dates

January 4th to February 10th 2012. Return from half term on Monday 20th February 2012.
