Blue Coat Pre-School Newsletter - September 2012

preschlogowebsmallIt seems rather a long time ago but we finished off the Summer term with a great day out at Cattle Country which I hope you all enjoyed. Six weeks of questionable summer weather and here we are back in the swing of term time.

We would like to say a big welcome to all our new children and their families. We hope you have a great time at Pre-School.

About Blue Coat Pre-School

For our new families and those who maybe are not aware, we would like to tell you a little bit about our setting.  We are what is called a Voluntary Pre-School. This means that we are entirely managed by volunteers made up of parents who give up their time to deal with all the issues you would encounter when running a small business; these people make up our Management Trustees

We are a charity and our funding comes from the grants for which the 3 and 4 year olds are eligible, from fees paid by the parents and by any fundraising activities that we undertake. Fundraising (and so much more) is carried out by the Parent Fundraising Committee.

To continue to function the Pre-School needs all parents to play their part, whether they have business skills, can bake a cake or lend a hand for fundraising events, or simply offer to wash the tea towels.

volunteerSadly only 9 people (out of 64 families with children at Pre-School) felt able to attend or send apologies to the last Parent Fundraising Group Meeting. Please please try to give support when you can – every little bit of help is really appreciated.

AGM – Coming up on Wednesday 17th October is the Annual General Meeting of the Fundraising Committee and the Management Trustees. By law we have to hold an AGM.  This is a quick meeting at which we need as many parents as possible to attend. Please show your support for the great work that they do by coming along to the AGM in the Pre- School on Wednesday 17th October at 8pm. See you there!

Blue Coat Pre-School is currently rated an Outstanding setting and we have very well qualified and experienced staff who put huge amounts of effort into providing great learning opportunities for the children.  We are lucky to have a good relationship with Blue Coat School, who allow us to use their hall and field at certain times, for which we are very grateful.

Please note however that we operate separately to the School itself and a place in Pre-School does not guarantee a place in the School. You should approach the School directly to complete an application form should you wish your child to attend.

thankyouThank you

We would like to thank all those parents who have helped us in various ways over the past academic year  - we couldn’t do it without you.

Health

Please remember that if your child has sickness and diarrhoea they should not come to Pre-School until 48 hours has passed since the last incident. This is to protect both other children and staff. Some of the children who attend Pre-School have specific health problems and it is important that we can advise them of potential infections, so also let us know if your child has had chicken pox or any of the other common childhood ailments.

wowWOW vouchers

WOW vouchers are available online and also in the Pre-School rooms so that you can tell us about your child’s achievements at home. This might be a swimming badge, being brave at the doctors, learning how to put socks on or staying in their own bed at night – whatever the news we will celebrate it with the other children.

bollywoodGrab Yourself a Takeaway! (Bollywood Big Take Out)

The Parent Fundraising Committee have arranged a special Indian take away menu for you on Saturday 6th October. Comprising Chicken Balti or Vegetable Rogan Josh, Bombay Potatoes, Samosa, Pakora, Rice, Poppadum & Nan Bread, this meal will be delivered to your house for just £12.50. Order forms available in the Unit or on the website.

Parent helpers

If you need to make changes to the parent rota, other than a straightforward swap could you please let Jo Bell know as the staff have no input to drawing up the rotas. The current rotas are available on the website under Early Years/Pre-School/For Parents and on the notice boards in the Pre-School.

Driving into School

Please do not bring your car onto the school premises unless you have been asked to collect a sick child.

Request for Sessions

Although we have only just started this term planning has started for the Spring term 2013. Request for Sessions will be going out very shortly for Buttons and Toggles. Please complete and return. We would also ask that you be as flexible as possible. Many thanks.

PE in Toggles

PE takes place on Thursdays in Toggles. Just a reminder to please dress your children in socks and shoes so that they can try to manage themselves.

2012-09-24 06.05.12 pmVouchers

Thank you to all the parents who donated Tesco and Sainsbury vouchers, the toys that we were able to obtain have now arrived and are being put to good use by the children.  We are now collecting Morrison’s vouchers. A collections box for Morrison’s vouchers is situated in the Toggles room.
