Outdoor Classroom Day 2018

P5170048The whole school took part in Outdoor Classroom Day on Thursday 17th May.

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. On the day, thousands of schools around the world take lessons outdoors and prioritise playtime. In 2017, over 2 million children in over 100 countries took part.

Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood.

Lots of lessons were held outside throughout the day, including reading, phonics, literacy, PSHE, maths, Forest School and of course, a large helping of Blue Coat's outdoor play. All of our outdoor spaces were in use throughout the day - I even found children editing their writing at the top of the helter skelter slide!

We finished the day together as a whole school up on the field for a special outdooor worship, singing and storytelling together. Many thanks to the Open the Book team for preparing an outdoor story especially for the day.

Well done everyone - what a great day! A selection of photos can be found below:
