Play Open Day

IMG 0342On Thursday 23rd March, Blue Coat welcomed over 40 teaching staff from schools across the south of the country to participate in a special Play Open Day. The event was hosted by Blue Coat and co-presented with our colleagues from OPAL Outdoor Play and Learning.

The aim of the day was to bring together schools that play, sharing experiences and best practice from schools that have taken part in the OPAL scheme, and those that are interested in starting their own play journey.

The morning included presentations from the Headteacher at Slimbridge Primary school, the Assistant Head at Kender Primary School in SE London, and our own Head Teacher Mr Ryan.

The afternoon saw Pecha Kucha ‘lighting talks’ from Mrs Murray, plus staff from Kender primary (London), Ridge Junior (Yate) and Oldfield Park (Bath).

The stars of the show, of course, were the pupils. All delegates took part in tours around Blue Coat’s play spaces at lunchtime, benefitting from a chance to see play in action. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive with high praise for the children’s creativity, high activity levels and positive behaviours whilst at play.

Many thanks to the OPAL team, the catering team and Mr Carlton for helping the event run smoothly.
Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting play at Blue Coat.
