Yellows Yield Sports Day Win

IMG 2688This year's Sports Day was highly anticipated: a warm-up District Sports track event last night coupled with competitive tweaks to the Key Stage 1 format made for an interesting fixture.

The children did the format justice.

Key Stage 2 started the day off with a series of 'Round Robin' team events which boosted the points ready for the competitive track events later in the morning. Teams cheered and jeered one another on, attempting to top the scores of the previously highest scoring team at each station.

The track events ensued and the crowd's volume matched the efforts of the athletes. Skipping, egg 'n' spoon, sack races, obstacles, sprints and relays dominated the race list and the children were amazing.

The morning ended with a Red team victory, but they knew that the younger children in Key Stage 1 would need to hold up their end of the bargain to clinch the Sports Day title this year...

After a family picnic lunch, the Key Stage 1 sports day had to contend with higher temperatures but also a bigger fanclub in the form of parents(!) The format revision meant that children still competed towards achieving a team result, but this year points were tallied and teams competed directly over a series of events.

The day finished with team relays which were fast, frantic and exciting. A definite crowd pleaser and one to repeat in future years. The afternoon was won by Yellow team.

There could only be one winner for the day though and the placings looked like this:

  1. Yellow
  2. Orange
  3. Red
  4. Blue
  5. Green

Thank you to everyone who made the day so enjoyable: from pupils to teaching staff; from parents to the catering and play teams. It was a great day and one in which our children shined brighter than the sun. Enjoy the memories...
