Welcome to the Family!

IMG 4153 2The second of its kind, today we held the 2012 Reception Welcome Service at St Mary's church. Despite the rain, spirits were lifted by formally receiving our new Reception children and their families into our Blue Coat community, which was underlined by a service of songs, hymns, prayers, blessings and readings.

Highlights from the event were Year 6 buddies talking about what the responsibility and role meant to them, a 'special reception song' delivered by our 2 youngest classes, and a reply from the Year 6's with their own song 'Seeds of Friendship'. And, of course, the pinnacle of the service was when the Year 6 children formally welcomed their reception buddy to Blue Coat with a short address followed by the ceremonial placing of a hand-painted pebble around our Blue Coat candle before the onlooking, proud parents.

This moment was captured (to some degree!) in the photos below. Apologies if the snaps aren't clear in places but hopefully parents managed better efforts at the time!

I must express our thanks to Reverend Axford and St Mary's church for hosting yet another Blue Coat service - we love the opportunity to visit our second home! Thank you to Mrs Galvin for a very well organised service along with Mr Clements and Mrs Nelson. Many thanks to our parent helpers for their supervision during the walk to and from church. But finally, thank you to all of our Reception parents for a very supportive attendance. We were happy to see so many friendly faces and we look forward to sharing even more memorable moments with you in the future.
