Tag Rugby News Bulletin!

The Tag Rugby Club has had a very busy term. As well as training every Monday after school, we have also taken part in a number of festivals and tournaments.

Kicking The Season Off...

On the 14th March we took three teams of Years 4, 5 and 6 pupils to play in a festival at the British School. The sun shone and some fantastic rugby was played. A great afternoon was had by all.

The following Wednesday (21st March) the Year 3’s and 4’s went to Dursley Rugby Club to face teams from all around the Dursley area. Again we saw some amazing rugby and our team ended the festival unbeaten having won three games and drawn two.

Sesame St Showdown

On Saturday 24th March our teams were up early as we had to be at Dursley Rugby Club for 8.45am. Again, it was a beautifully sunny day and just perfect for playing Tag Rugby. We entered two teams in the tournament: ‘Team Cookie Monster’ and ‘Team Elmo’. Both teams played brilliantly, they passed the ball well and scored lots of stunning tries.

Each team played seven games; Team Cookie Monster won four, lost two and drew one. This meant that they finished a very respectable third in their group. They only missed out on second place by try difference!

...Try, Try, Try Again!

Team Elmo won five of their games and drew two. This meant that they finished joint top of their group level on points with Dursley School. The winner of the group was decided by the number of tries scored throughout the morning. Team Elmo had scored 35 tries and Dursley 34. Team Elmo had therefore won the group and went on to face an unbeaten Nailsworth team in the final!

The final was a hard fought affair with some great running and nimble tag-taking. However, Nailsworth were just too good for us and they won 6-2. Although disappointed with the result we had played some great rugby and had thoroughly enjoyed our morning. Well done to all who played and a special thank you to those children who stepped in at the last minute when we were short of players.

Thank You!

We have had a great season and would like to thank all of the players for their hard work and commitment. We would also like to thank those parents who have helped us out by driving to the Rugby Club, walking to the British School and turning up to cheer us on.

Many Thanks,

Mrs Galvin & Mr Bailey
