Don't Forget...

...Friday 23rd Nov at 2pm is an Open Afternoon for Reception 2019 prospective parents. Join us!

This week we have been writing structured poetry.

Here is an example of the haiku of Basho Matsuo, the first great poet of haiku in the 1600s:

An old silent pond...

A frog jumps into the pond,

splash! Silence again.

Does it fit the rules?

For your homework, write a Haiku or Cinquain poem about a subject of your own choice. Think carefully about every word, try not to "waste" any of those precious syllables.  Write your finished poem on a piece of paper in best handwriting and bring in to school to put it on our poetry board.  (You may also comment it on the blog - but still bring in a paper copy.)

Here's my attempt at a haiku.

Saturday Morning Walk

Dark clouds scudding by:
threatening. Ancient trees creak.
I race for shelter.

Coloured fish swimming swiftly
Darting for darkness.

Haiku poem

Falling down, falling
from harmless, peaceful giants.
A white scene building.

The fish

Swimming and splashing,
Colourful and scaly fish,
Gliding through the water.
