Countdown - Chapter 11 by Hayden & Leo

                                                          Chapter 11

“Is everything in position?” Ric said calmly, breathing down the neck of his prime technician. Fearfully, he nodded; sweat rolling down his chubby chin. Sweeping over to the flat-screen TV, Ric stared at it thoughtfully; there was no time to waste because the conference would start soon.

Swivelling round sharply, he hissed, “get everyone off the scaffolding and set the timer to: 40 minutes. Now.” Disdainfully Ric strolled out of the room, seemingly calm and under control. Seemingly.

His carefully constructed emotions collapsed as soon as he was out of the room. His eyes turned bloodshot and his hands trembled vigorously: If his plan didn’t work he was done for, he had been born to do this. Born to take over the world.

Reports all over the globe showed reports of a major food company’s main factory burning to ashes, although, confusingly, nothing edible could be found. After deeper research we, Cleo Marv and I, on the long and predictive journey, managed to realize that there was something more sinister going on. A long list of important factories going up in flames popped up, all occurring a couple of weeks after each other. Furthermore, nothing could be found after the fire. We had a feeling that these linked together and to Ric.

At least we had found something we thought could be useful on this tiresome motorway journey. However all that had happened before; we now had to focus on the hours ahead. As we strolled normally in the vague direction of the houses of parliament, trying our best to look like normal passer passers-by I wondered: couldn’t we just jet off to a small, unknown island and stay there for the rest of our lives? Wouldn’t that be easier than risking our lives to keep peace? All we would have to do is keep our island at peace. Negative thought raced around my mind making me think that our plan may not work. Would it?
