Should Schools Expect Children To Read Regularly?
It has been reported that many children are leaving school without achieving the required standard in reading. Research over many years shows these young people are at a considerable disadvantage when seeking employment or,indeed, coping with everyday tasks. It is felt that reading on a regular basis in primary school sets firm foundations for life. However, some people argue that children should be allowed to develop reading skills at their own pace, and by forcing them to read they may be turned off books and reading forever.
