Year 5 Outdoor Education

Today, the year 5s had to work as teams to solve some challenges.  The first was a game called Keypunch in which they had to work out the quickest way to touch every number in the circle, in the correct order. Sounds easy, but amazing to watch as they struggled and spun about, trying to spot the next number. Then we had a water challenge, to transport some water between two points using guttering, but the guttering isn't long enough to span the distance. The children decided afterwards that they had had to use many learning skills such as perseverance, reflectiveness, communication, planning, coordination and many others.  Finally we used measuring equipment to carry out a tree survey of the larger trees on the field to estimate their ages, heights and the ground area that they covered.
