A New Supermarket for Wotton?

Here in Class China we need your opinions! We are trying to find as many arguments for and arguments against the proposal to build a supermarket in Old Town. The children will have to make up their minds which side they are on, and then use all the arguments they have gathered to write an amazing persuasive letter. We will look to send the best letters to the Gazette for publishing. So please blog back. Do you think that a supermarket in Old Town is a good idea? Why?

I think a supermarket in Old Town will change our town in a number ways. I believe it will have a detrimental effect on our high street, the butchers and bakers will not survive, we will probably lose other shops too. It is also possible that Wotton will experience 'gridlock' on a daily basis, whilst the planning proposal considers ways of dealing with traffic issues on Old Town itself they do not address issues of increased traffic on Haw Street, Bear Street, Gloucester Street, Long Street and The Culverhay. I do not think another supermarket will benefit or improve our town.

I think it would be a great idea having a big supermarket in wotton because then people would not have to leave wotton to go get stuff that you can only usually get at a big supermarket. The down side that everyones talking about is the lorrys needing to go in and out, theirs not enough space for cars and lorrys since cars struggle to go down the road. I think a supermarket would be great but some things may have to change.
