Homework - 11th January
This week we have been writing structured poetry.
Here is an example of the haiku of Basho Matsuo, the first great poet of haiku in the 1600s:
An old silent pond...
A frog jumps into the pond,
splash! Silence again.
Does it fit the rules?
For your homework, write a Haiku or Cinquain poem about a subject of your own choice. Think carefully about every word, try not to "waste" any of those precious syllables. Write your finished poem on a piece of paper in best handwriting and bring in to school to put it on our poetry board. (You may also comment it on the blog - but still bring in a paper copy.)

MONKEYS
lonley brown and soft,
swinging amongst the brown trees,
finding sweet sweet fruit.

soft sand through my toes,
roaring waves hitting the rocks,
watch out shark attack!
Blue beautiful sea,
glistening in walm sunlight.
Foamy waves crashing down!
Tigers
Tigers,
Furry and Fierce,
Prowling amongst the trees,
Fighting for life now and again,
On high.

sharks swimming round
back front the seaweed sways
the dolphins jumping up and down
swish swash

Dark clouds scudding by:
threatening. Ancient trees creak.
I race for shelter.
Dragons
Dragons
Fire breathing
Flying high in the sky
Out of breath and almost finished
Awesome.
Brown leaves falling,
A crispy carpet forms,
Crunching, crunching JUMP!
Spring
Flowers out again,
More Animals appearing,
For the new season.
Coral Reef
Coral full of life
Coloured fish swimming swiftly
Darting for darkness.
Soft snow
Slowly falling
Creating a blanket,
Snowman with a colourful scarf
Sun comes !
Snow
Falling down, falling
from harmless, peaceful giants.
A white scene building.
Swimming and splashing,
Colourful and scaly fish,
Gliding through the water.
