Hooray...Let's go on Holiday!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you have all had a chance to have a look at our new Home Learning Grid for this term. The format is the same as last term, in that children can choose one activity to complete per week. Please keep the grid in your child’s book bag and ask them to hand in just their completed activities. If you have any queries, then please don’t hesitate to come and see me.

This week, as part of our new topic, ‘Hooray…Let’s go on Holiday’ we will be continuing to look at our own locality; identifying features of our environment and describing them. We will also be using ICT to research different holiday destinations from around the world and collating our findings to help us make comparisons of their geographical features. In Art, we will be continuing to use collage to recreate images from our favourite holiday destinations. In History, we will be looking at different holidays we have been on during each year of our lives, so if you could please send your child in to school with any photos, postcards or souvenirs (clearly named) ready for our session on Thursday that would be great.

In Literacy, we are continuing to look at stories with familiar settings and are using the Katie Morag series of stories as a basis for our learning.  We will be continuing to look at the characters found in these stories, with a particular focus on how different situations and events affect their feelings and emotions and how these are conveyed within the story. We will be writing letters to different characters and developing our use of imaginative language and punctuation through setting descriptions.

In Maths, we will be developing our data handling skills. We will be gathering data regarding holidays from other members of the class and school and presenting our findings in various charts and graphs including Venn Diagrams, Bar Charts, Carroll Diagrams and Tally Charts. We will then be using the charts we have created to interpret the data; asking and answering questions related to our findings.

Forest School will be on Wednesday mornings for the next 3 weeks. Thank you to everyone who has offered to help, I will let you know which week I have allotted to whom. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough space for everyone who has offered to help but the offer of your help is greatly appreciated. Even though we are in the Summer Term it can still be rather chilly on the exposed land where our forest school sessions take place so please send your child to school on those mornings prepared for all weather!
