Popcorn in the sunshine!

Well done everyone for coming back to school so brilliantly after your Easter holidays. We had a lovely circle time on Monday sharing everyone's news. The children were respectful when others were talking and were able to wait their turn patiently. We always love hearing about where the children go, who they went with and how they got there! The children wrote some super sentences about their holidays and I was very impressed that the children had remembered how to form lots of our tricky words!

In phonics we will be continuing with lots of segmenting and blending work. We will keep practising  hearing and saying sounds in three letter words such as cot, hen, zip etc. We will also continue to focus on hearing, reading and writing words with digraphs and trigraphs within them.  We will be moving on to sounding out words with four sounds such as hand, flag and tent etc. The children are working really hard in order to remember the digraphs and trigraphs. If you can support them at home encouraging quick recognition that will really help when spotting them within words eg goat, feet, book, farm. Make it fun, write them on post it notes and go on a hunt round the house for example. Below are the digraphs and trigraphs we are focussing on so any extra help would be really beneficial. We will continue to send home sound strips every Friday; these are to sound out and blend.

We will continue to add new tricky words each week into their little books so watch out for them. Dont worry if your child can't read them all just take one at a time to focus on and praise them for spotting them!

We had a sunny forest school yesterday and it was made even more special because of having the fire. Mr Brooks told us all about being safe and how we must never cross the fire circle and only move out over the logs we were sitting on. The children were very sensible and loved listening for the pops as the popcorn began to cook! Thank you Parent helpers for the last four sessions, we really appreciate the extra pairs of hands especially with the wellies and hand washing at the end! Thanks for Mr Brooks who always makes Forest school so enjoyable for the children.

Our topic this term...It's a surprise!! We haven't told the children yet but all will be revealed tomorrow morning! See you on Monday.
