Who will help the Little Red Hen?

Hello everyone! Well what a busy start to our week we've had! Storytelling, salt dough, P.E and singing Harvest songs to name just a few activities.  We have taught the children a special version of the traditional story 'The Little Red Hen'. Over the next few  weeks we hope the children will be coming home and telling you the story and teaching you the actions for the different characters.  It's such a brilliant way of introducing a story in a fun and exciting way and the children will become very confident storytellers themselves!

Alongside our storytelling we were very helpful (not like the lazy dog,cat and rat!) and we measured, mixed and kneaded our salt dough. We had great fun pouring in the flour, salt and then the water which made the mixture very sticky! We all made our own 'bread roll' which were all sorts of shapes and sizes. When they are cooked we will be using them in our role play area which is the Little Red Hen's house.

In P.E this week we enjoyed our lively warm up session and used our listening skills to play the 'bean game' (hopefully the children will tell you the different sorts of beans!) and also 'teacups and turtles' where we had to make different balancing  shapes with our bodies. Next week we would like the children to get changed for P.E. so if all P.E bags can be on pegs ready for wednesday please!

I have really noticed many helpful, independent and resourceful learners this week. While I had my hands full with salt dough and flour puffing everywhere the children were really helpful doing eachother's aprons up, working together sharing toys and making sure when they chose an activity there was room to join in. Well done everyone for working together, it feels like one big team in our class already!

The Year 6 children have been asking and asking their teachers for the last four weeks 'When we will meet our Reception buddies?'. Well we have matched all of our children up with a responsible year 6 who will be their buddy throughout the whole year. This is a great opportunity for friendship, to build confidence and simply to have fun together. Towards the end of the week we will be getting together with our buddies and finding out who they are!
