Don't Forget... term ends on Friday 15th December at 2.30pm

Hello my fellow mathematicians!

Everyone of you should be feeling very proud with the enthusiam and hardwork you showed today! A fantastic start to our new maths topic - Fractions!

Today we began by looking at improper fractions... can you remember what we converted them to? (Don't forget your technical vocabulary!)

Tomorrow we will be adding to our fractions skills and focusing on ordering. Here is one to get you thinking...

Is 3/8 bigger than 1/4?

Here's a clue... What must we do first when trying to order fractions that have a different denominator?

I think 1/4 is bigger than 3/8. I know that because if you have a pizza and you cut four squares and if you have another pizza and cut 8 quarters, four squares are bigger than 8 quartes. 8)

A great explanataion, but not quite. Remember we have to make both of our denominators the same (so it's fair!)

Example 1/4 must be converted to 2/8...

Now we know 1/4 is equivalent to 2/8 which pizza would you rather have? 2/8s or the one with 3/8? (I guess it also depends if you like pizza!)
