Don't Forget...

...Reception 2018 Open Morning for Parents in the school hall on Tues 7th Nov 9.30am

06/11/2017 at 10:06am

Today in class we looked at the poem "Down Behind the Dustbin" by Michael Rosen.  The children then tried to write their own. Here are some of the verses from the original poem.

Down behind the dustbin

I met a dog called Harry.

He tried to lift the bin,

But it was too heavy to carry.

Down behind the dustbin

I met a dog called Sid.

He could smell a bone inside

But he couldn’t lift the lid.

Down behind the dustbin

I met a dog called Jim.

He didn’t know me

And I didn’t know him

Down behind the dustbin

I met a dog called Jack.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

He said “Nowhere, I’m just coming back”

Down behind the dustbin

I met a dog called Nicola.

She looked a bit like an onion,

so I thought I’d like to pickle ‘er.

Children, either comment your poem you wrote in class or make up another one. Don't forget to make sure it rhymes on line 2 and 4, and that the rhythm fits.

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Pat
She was crazy about cricket
So bought a brand new bat.

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Molly
She was really sweaty
So sucked an ice, cold lolly.

Down behind the dustbin
I met a hedgehog called Mikey
he got prickled everyday
because he was so spiky!

Down behind the dustbin
I met a dog called Mircle
he went to the hairdressers
and came out as a circle!

Down behind the dustbin
I met a turtle called Mo
she didn't win a single race
because she was so slow!

I like my poems because they have a bit of humour and there not too silly.
I also like them because they do have rhyming couplets at the end of verse 2 and 4
also they do keep the same rythme all the way through.
