polarWe have been learning about the key features of recounts and what we should put in them to make them exciting and interesting for our readers.

Inspired by this picture we have had a go this week at writing introductions to recounts.

Esme wrote: At 12 o'clock in the morning I found myself in a very cold icy sea with grey clouds above my head chucking cold icy rain on us. I was very cold and scared because a massive big bit of ice was headed straight for our ship with all our precious work on. Suddenly, the wind picked up and the ship rocked side to side really fast.

Lizzie wrote using a pseudonym: I am Bryan Witt. It's 20th November and my ship is stuck in the ice because we're in the North Pole. Quickly, we're running out of supplies. The men are weakening and The Peregrine is in a state. I'm exhausted. A storm is breaking and every step the ship creaks'.

According to Jensen, who also used a pseudonym, 'On 17th December we found ourselves on an iceberg, frozen solid in an unusual place. My ship, The Legendary Eagle, could stand no longer. It was frozen from the bottom deck to the top. I, Freddie Burger, felt worried my ship would break to tiny pieces of wood. It was winter and everybody got the shivers as we got our axes and tried to break the solid ice.'

Jensen,Esme and Lizzie all put the date or the time in the first sentence. I thought the introductions were really good!

I think Lizzie's recount is good because it's got lots of detail and I have a picture of it in my head 8)

We've been stuck hear for at least 3 weeks but it feels like more. We are staving hungry so are the rats. Our ship is breaking in the middle of frozen ice. We hope someone will save us soon.

I slowly opened my eyes and was terrified! What had happened? Where was I? My shoes were all damp and I was all soggy! Where was all my crew? Had they...died? It looked like I was stranded on an icy island! I dont know what to do? I can't walk all the way back! I am too cold and I don't think I will have any food left.My ship, the black pearl, was all wrecked because the rain was so hard.
