Don't Forget...

Wow what an amazing day! We visited Woodchester Mansion as part of topic work on buildings and structures. The Mansion is a Grade 1 listed building in the Victorian Gothic style which is nestled in the valley of Woodchester park. It is unique as it has stood in time unfinished.

We had the amazing opportunity to look around the building looking at parts of it finished but other parts without plaster on the walls, ceilings missing and fireplaces seeming to float  midair. Our tour guide spoke to us about how the building was built and how the details and carving were added. Amazingly, for a Victorian build it actually had a bathroom and shower! However, with no running water it would have been the servants job to stand behind the wall to pour water through the carved animals into the bath and shower. We also had the opportunity to find out about the bats that roost at Woodchester Mansion, the Greater and Lesser Horseshoe bats. We sketched parts of the building and counted the number of Gargoyles that decorate the mansion. We even fitted in a woodland walk where we all had too much fun on the zip wire!

Thank you to all the parents for helping and all the children for their excellent behaviour!

Thank you, Mrs Goodship, for providing us with so many photos! It looked like a great day out where the children had a good balance of fun and education.
